Especially because the online community has made recreations of ALL the RCT1 scenarios (including expansions) into the game nearly perfectly down to objectives, descriptions, and research unlock order. So I'd pick 1, but for you I'd recommend 2 (and apparently you did pick it). Its a good game, but the scenarios are a little weak to be honest. I think thats mostly due to changing up the art style, isometric view, and UI. The third one is different, not the same feel as the first 2. RCT2 just gives them to you, no questions asked. Personally, I prefer the nostalgia of the 1st, mainly because of the awesome scenarios and the actual need to unlock them. EDIT: You can ride the rides! Forgot about that! Really cool, but not as cool as it sounded originally.

Even more options for custom scenery and custom scenarios. RCT3: First entry into 3D, but theres a steep learning curve when it comes to landscaping.

They give you the option to just build, no money or park restrictions if you so choose. RCT2: The most open, made to build! Custom scenery, imported scenarios, better animation and generally regarded as the most diverse. The upside (or downside depending) is you have to unlock them by beating previous scenarios. Best of the 3 when it comes to scenarios. RCT1: More simple in design, more basic in functionality. Omg Ive been waiting for this question since like forever.

Still, it feels like the most full experience to me - I really hope they do a proper sequel soon, though. The only downside is that it's early 3D, so it's not as aesthetically pleasing as the lovely sprite work in the first two. More rides, more landscaping options, more everything. Kinda fun, and seeing as you gotta test your coasters anyway, it's a nice addition.īut really it's a fantastic game that has more robust options than its predecessors, and because of the fluid camera, you have more control. The 'riding' the coasters is a perk that they put in there cause it looks good on the box. You had full control over the angles and everything, so it wasn't as restrictive as the isometric approach of the first two (which became quite annoying if you had tight spaces to work with or ended up building things in your park very clustered.) Oftentimes it doesn't even feel like you'd be making a "real" amusement parks due to absurdity of their themes in RCT2 and thus they only start to work for me when I feel like I want to do something really different.I actually enjoyed RCT 3 a lot more simply because you could zoom in the camera and adjust it and really get a better look at your park. Last time I played I actually started with RCT2 but quickly rotated back to original because I wanted to play more neutral parks in which I have more power to decide the dircetion I want to develop them. However if you don't want or need to build everything from ground up and enjoy strongly themed parks, I guess you could start with RCT2 too. Of course RCT2 contains some improvements that would be really nice to have but mostly there's nothing major, especially for new players.

For example you are free to charge an entrance fee and/or single ride tickets (all rides have invidual prices) while RCT2 usually forces you to use either. There are a lot of parks that begin completely empty (especially earlier parks) that lets you approach them the way you want, and for the new players learn the basics while doing so. I think, in a way, original offers "the purest" RCT experience possible and is better starting point.
